Unfortunately, eating is such a problem in this world that it has been the underlining cause of every single major health problem. Cancer, diabetes, arthritis, high blood pressure and yes obesity are all linked to eating. The latter is almost always a result of eating too much and exercising too little.

Emotional eating is a big problem for many people, especially those who are affected by low self esteem, economic hardships (unemployment) and depression. Emotional eating is used by many in just the same way a drug addict or alcoholic uses drugs. It is a way to escape the problems currently facing them. Unfortunately it only makes matters worse as the underlining problems still remain even after the meal is done and to make matters worse, weight is gained.

One of the best ways to get over emotional eating is to find out what is causing the distress and treat it. Usually, many people eat when they are bored or stressed. To fight both of these, take away the temptation. Do not keep snacks around. If the urge to eat something comes on and you know you''re not hungry, grab a glass of water or fruit/vegetable juice and take a walk.

Joining a gym or weight watchers program can be another great way to fight emotional eating. Surrounding one''s self with others who can help them is one of the best treatments for any disorder. Last but not least, get someone that you will be accountable to. Keep a record of what you eat and when you eat it.
